3 BIG Mistakes LEADERS Make in Network Marketing

Mistake #1 - The Leader Stops Learning

Sometimes a leader stops learning because they have everything figured out. They have reached a certain level of education or income and feel as if they are "good to go." And they are...but why not reach higher?

Look at Jim Rohn...he's a multi-millionaire and often talks about how he needs a lesson or two from a billionaire. Jim is the MENTOR to the MASSES and you will still see him at his own events taking notes in his journal. My question to a leader is simple...are you TAKING NOTES OR MAKING NOTES?

Some leaders with a great resume seem to use it as a license to stop learning, but I see the BEST leaders in our industry continue to set the example. They continue to learn - and more importantly - they LISTEN to their people, not themselves.

Mistake #2 - The Leader FAILS to ADAPT.

What worked 5, 10 or 20 years may not work as well in the 21st Century. I see the BEST leaders in the industry teaching a combination of 20th and 21st Century business building skills.

Furthermore, it's critical to ADAPT to the 21st Century PROSPECT.

Take a look back to 1994 — how many prospects were using the Internet to find a home-based business? How about in 2004?

Another example is personal development training. If you were to ask Bill Bailey how he created $64 million in ONE month over 30 years ago in network marketing...he will say that personal growth was the KEY. In fact that's why Jim Rohn was his corporate trainer, like Jim is today for Herbalife.

I hear leaders sometimes say..."I don't like that speaker" or "We don't need that speaker" or "We don't need that additional training".

Here is a good note to take...

"It's not about what you think, it's about your people, it's about your team. You might know it all, but every event has one thing in common when it comes to attendance: the majority of the attendees are NEW people. Are you catering to THEM or YOU?"

Try it at your next event...ASK..."How many of you are HERE for your FIRST event?" You will see a SHOCKING percentage raise their hand.

Mistake #3 - The Leader Becomes Complacent

The actual definition from Webster's: *com-pla-cent*
"Contented to a fault; self-satisfied and unconcerned:
He had become complacent after years of success."

I remember parts of a speech years ago from a top money earner motivating his leadership...I happened to be one of them.

"Some of you forgot HOW you got in this room, or how you earned your six-figure incomes last year, or how you became a TOP producer or TOP recruiter.

"Some of you went from the middle of the field, playing the game everyday and getting filthy from sweat and tears of simply 'playing the game' you love so much.... 'To the SIDELINES to take a BREAK...

"...And you're STILL on the sidelines.

"It's OK to take time off, to enjoy your lifestyle, BUT if you want the million dollar income, you need to PLAY like a million dollar EARNER."

He went on and closed the speech saying,

"Halftime is over, friends. It's time to play again and I am asking you to play HARDER than ever before.

"And remember this: the PLAYERS in this industry NEVER change, but the SPECTATORS do.

"Before you go home from this great event, you better DECIDE where you stand in the game and what kind of PLAYER you want to be."

The point to this mistake is simple...not only simple, it is very positive...and motivating.

We all become complacent at times. This is good to some degree if you manage it by taking short breaks and vacations with your family.

Do this often - we all deserve and need it.

Just don't make it a habit until you RETIRE.

My advice to you is to see where you are at in your business and DECIDE like I did to GET back into the game OR just to PLAY harder.

But this time, PLAY as HARD as you can until you are ready to become 100% complacent.
