Another Satisfied Dreamer

I walked off the escalator.  In front of me was a gigantic picture of a woman crying.  The caption read, “Another satisfied customer.”  This picture was displayed in front of a jewelry store and it inferred the woman just received a priceless gift: a diamond engagement ring.

If I put your picture in place of that woman, would the caption be able to read, “Another satisfied dreamer?”  Do you have dreams in place that are giving you a sense of urgency to cause you to resist the temptation to procrastinate?  If not, it’s time to get them in place right now and I’m going to help you.

I find most people have at least one big, bold dream.  However, that dream never becomes a reality.  Do you know why?  It’s because that dream is so big and seems so unobtainable that it doesn’t create the sense of urgency needed to resist procrastination.

So, what’s the solution?  The solution is to create a "dream clock".  On your dream clock you’re going to want to put your big, bold dream at the 12:00 position.  At the 1:00 position put a small dream you feel you could achieve in one year or less.  That 1:00 position is your starting point.  That’s the dream you are going to work hard for right now.  It’s essential your dream be strong enough to motivate you to action, even on days you don’t feel like it.  Let that sense of urgency drive you to pick up the phone.  Let it drive you to schedule more recruiting interviews than you ever have before.  Let it drive you to get a full schedule of product demonstrations.

Have fun with that 1:00 dream and go do some dream shopping.  Collect pictures and hang them up.  Visuals are a powerful tool to keep you motivated and to keep you from the jaws of procrastination.

Fill in the remainder of your dream clock, labeling the dreams you want to achieve in one year or less.  Do you see what’s happening?  As you begin to accomplish your 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 dreams, your big, bold dream at the 12:00 position doesn’t seem so far away now.  You’ve worked hard each year with the smaller dreams in the interim and now your big dream seems like you can wrap your hands around it.  It feels more doable and you’ll start to get excited, which will cause even more of a sense of urgency in your business activity and growth.

Always monitor your excitement level and the sense of urgency you are feeling.  Your dreams are the foundation to breaking through your procrastination.  If you don’t feel that urgency, it’s time to go dream shopping for something that would give you that needed spark of excitement and desire.

The genius part about creating a dream clock is you will be a “satisfied dreamer” along the course of your journey toward that big, bold dream.

Until next time, keep dreaming and work hard to make your dreams a reality!
